When it comes to decorating our Christmas tree, it's often the case that we bring the dusty box of decorations down from the loft and begin to follow our normal routine of baubles, tinsel and hanging glass. Perhaps we buy or make a couple of new decorations every year to give our tree a slightly new lease of life.

But, have you ever thought of mixing up your tree decorating style completely? The following new trend does exactly that...

In recent years, Christmas tree fanatics have been setting aside their red, gold and silver baubles for something slightly less traditional, equally as beautiful and a lot more evergreen - flowers.

Floral Christmas trees have become increasingly popular for bringing a natural, fresh and organic feel to our festive trees. People adorn them with roses, poinsettia, lillies - in fact any flower at all.

Best flowers for decorating your tree

If you fancy trying the floral trend this year, we recommend starting with poinsettia and holly. You could then add a few larger artificial dahlia (£2.95 each in white, Amazon) or rose flowers (£1.20 for 20 small heads, Amazon) in your chosen colour scheme. For a festive scent, use thin wire to attach a few cinnamon sticks (£4.90, Amazon) to the branches of your tree and use dried orange slices (£12.95, Amazon) and pinecones (£3.99 for 25, Amazon) to add some rustic variation.
